GREG CALLS FOR ACTION FOR A21
02.09.2013 for immediate release: Bexhill and Battle MP, Greg Barker has called for a high level meeting with the Highways Agency after discussing ongoing concerns about the A21 at Hurst Green with local County Councillor John Barnes.
Greg and John took time to look at the road at Ashdene Service Station, a highway that is of particular concern and was the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident in July, tragically killing a local woman from Battle.
Speaking after their discussion at the Hurst Green Shop and Cafe, Greg said,
“We all know that the A21 is one of the most dangerous roads in Britain. Yet another horrific accident this summer has underlined the need for serious improvements.
“I want the Highways Agency to listen carefully to the village and local people, to appreciate just how concerned residents are and to bring forward a set of safety measures that we can all support. I will be contacting the Parish Council and our district councillors and others to set a date for our meeting as soon as possible.”
County Councillor, John Barnes said “" I am very grateful to Greg for taking this up. The Highways Agency must be made to revisit the question of safety on this lethal stretch of road as a matter of urgency. There have been too many deaths and serious accidents already and if action is not taken they should be held responsible for any future deaths. The writing is on the wall…"
