Greg was so impressed with the Bexhill charity Furry Friends when they won Pet Carer of the Year award at the Bexhill Achievers ceremony last year that he asked to join them on one of their visits to see the good effects of their voluntary service for himself.
Charity volunteers Sue and Margaret brought along three of their rabbits to the day centre for the elderly run by Bexhill Caring Community. Greg chatted to the ladies and gentlemen who enjoyed this opportunity to pet the rabbits which have been specially trained by the charity to provide a comfort and petting break.
Members of the day centre told Greg how much they look forward to their Friday outing to Bexhill Caring Community they take part in a wide range of activities, enjoy a two-course home-cooked lunch and afternoon tea. The Friday group organiser is Fiona Hemsworth and the members are collected and dropped home by the volunteer drivers of the Community’s mini buses.
Speaking at the day centre Greg said “I have had a thoroughly enjoyable time at Bexhill Caring Community today chatting to the members and volunteers and it was delightful to see how therapeutic and fun the rabbits of Furry Friends are.
“In Bexhill we are extremely fortunate to have so many people willing to give up their free time for the benefit of others and I am full of admiration for the volunteer staff of Furry Friends and Bexhill Caring Community whose efforts make a huge difference to the lives and happiness of others.”
