Greg Barker, MP for Bexhill and Battle and Conservative Minister for Energy and Climate Change, is to hold a roundtable to discuss the Government’s new ‘Green Deal’ at the Studio of De La Warr Pavilion on Friday 17 May 2013 from 2.00 to 4.00pm.
The Green Deal is the Coalition Government’s ambitious initiative to transform Britain’s homes. The Green Deal programme will let householders and businesses pay for some or all of the cost of energy-saving improvements to their properties, over time, through savings on their energy bills, using suppliers they can trust.
The Green Deal will also bring new business opportunities for local firms who can become accredited as assessors, suppliers or installers under the scheme. The East Sussex branch of the Federation of Small Businesses is supporting this local Green Deal event as it recognises the opportunities it can bring for local small businesses.
Speaking in Bexhill, Greg said “I’m looking forward to the Green Deal event at the De La Warr Pavilion on 19 May. The Green Deal is a fantastic new way to help people make their homes warmer and save energy at the same time. And it’s not just consumers who will benefit. The Green Deal is also great for business, creating a new market and new jobs.”
Lord Brett McLean Chairman for East Sussex Federation Of Small Businesses (FSB) and Chairman for the East Sussex Economic Advisory Board said "Green Deal provides an excellent opportunity for local residents to upgrade their properties so they are more energy efficient, a fantastic income generator for small and medium sized enterprises to form co-operatives and become assessors, manufacturers, distributors and installers of Green Deal products and an ideal way of engaging with those seeking employment in line with increasing apprenticeship and internship opportunities using Green Deal!"
The Green Deal Roundtable is a free event for local businesses and residents who want to find out more about the Green Deal but places are limited and must be reserved in advance. To book a place at the Green Deal roundtable please contact Frances McKenna at the constituency office by email to [email protected] or telephone 01424 734910.
