Bexhill and Battle MP, Greg Barker discussed the work and challenges of voluntary emergency service SERV Bloodrunners during their visit to his Bexhill offices last Friday.
The local charity provides a free out of hours transportation service for NHS Hospitals across Sussex, including the Conquest and Eastbourne DGH, between 1900 and 0600, 365 days of the year. SERV volunteer riders and drivers transport blood products and other urgent consignments in their marked cars and motorbikes allowing hospitals to divert their important resources elsewhere. They answer over 1,000 emergency calls every year. The dedicated team of SERV volunteers receive no payment or expenses for providing this service.
Speaking in Bexhill, Greg said “The volunteers at SERV Bloodrunners perform an invaluable service saving money and saving lives. Their terrific work often goes unacknowledged so I’m delighted to pay tribute to the wonderful work that they do.”
SERV Bloodrunners will be raising awareness of their work all day on Saturday 14 July at Sainsburys in Bexhill. For more information visit their website www.servsussex.org.uk
