GREG PRAISES LOCAL COMMUNITIES FOR FALL IN CRIME
18.11.13 for immediate release: Local MP, Greg Barker, paid tribute to community-minded local people who have helped keep crime rates low in Bexhill and Battle when he met up in Bexhill with Chief Superintendent Neil Honnor, East Sussex Divisional Commander, to discuss law and order issues in the constituency. Greg heard that initiatives such as Neighbourhood Watch and Community Speedwatch have made East Sussex a safer place to live.
The risk of becoming a victim of crime in Bexhill and Battle is low with vigilance from members of the public and strong Neighbourhood Watch links helping local officers keep it that way. The areas Neighbourhood Policing Teams are dedicated to working closely with local communities to not only keep crime rates low but help make the district even safer.
One such initiative involving local people is Community Speedwatch, a group of volunteers set up to help monitor speeds on the district’s roads and report speeding road users to police. The number of volunteers involved in this innovative scheme grows monthly with more and more trained people aiding the police in making their communities safer.
Speaking in Bexhill, Greg said “I was pleased to hear that crime rates have come down even lower low in Bexhill and Battle. It is great to hear that community involvement in Neighbourhood Watch and Community Speedwatch schemes have been so effective in improving the safety of our local communities.
“The Community Speedwatch scheme is already showing results with volunteers in Bexhill noting that they have begun to see a drop in the number of speeders witnessed; I’d urge anyone with a little bit of free time and the drive to want to help make our roads safer to get in touch with their local officer to find out more.”
