28.01.13 for immediate release: Local MP, Greg Barker, visited Etchingham Deli and Shop last Saturday to personally wish Neil and Sian Cotterill good luck in the regional finals of the Countryside Alliance Awards, also known as the “Rural Oscars”.
The Etchingham Deli and Shop was nominated for this award by their customers and is hoping to win in the best Rural Start-up category for the South East. The shop is a successful community-led enterprise managed by Mr and Mrs Cotterill which opened for business last May. As well as the basics, the shop also supplies a wide variety of local produce including farm fresh fruit and veg, meats, bread, home-made foods and offers an extensive deli counter.
Regional judging panels will oversee the next stage of the competition and decide on winners in early February before going forward to complete against winners from Scotland, Wales, Ireland and other English regions in the final.
Speaking in Etchingham, Greg said “I was delighted to hear that Etchingham Deli and Shop has reached the regional finals in the Countryside Alliance Awards. This brilliant local enterprise is a real credit to the village of Etchingham and Mr and Mrs Cotterill who have made the shop the heart of the local community. I wish them the best of luck in the competition. My only complaint is that everything in the shop is so lovely and tempting, I always come out having spent far more than I intended to when I went in.”
