NICE WEATHER FOR DUCKS AS GREG VISITS WESTHAM POND
11.03.13 for immediate release: Pevensey and Westham MP, Greg Barker, visited Westham Pond last Friday to see the improvement and restoration work that has been carried out by the parish council following their successful bid for funding to the SITA Trust Landfill Communities Fund.
Joining Greg for the visit on the wet Friday morning was Mr Marek Gordon, CEO and Chair of the SITA Trust and members of Westham Parish Council. The Parish councillors explained to Greg that the banks of the pond had been badly eroded by the ducks, geese and pair of swans who have made their home in Westham over recent years.
In order to maintain the delicate eco balance of the pond and its banks, it was necessary to for the council to undertake some preservation work. They successfully applied to the SITA Trust for funding and were awarded £25,931 from the Landfill Communities Fund. The project was managed by parish councillor Peter Marshall.
Speaking at Westham Greg said: “It was great to see the historic horses’ pond at Westham being so well maintained by Westham parish council with the help of funding from the SITA Trust. The pond is a great haven for local wildlife and a real asset to the village. I look forward to visiting again soon and hopefully seeing some cygnets and ducklings here later this spring.”
Marek Gordon said: "This is a wonderful example of how the Landfill Communities Fund can help local communities get important work completed. We were delighted to be part of this project."
A parish council spokesman said: “Westham Parish Council is extremely grateful for the support and help of the SITA Trust and also for the support and interest shown
