GREG BARKER: ROTHER RECEIVES FUNDING BOOST FOR HOUSING
12.12.12 for immediate release: This week, the Government has announced £770,112 of funding for Rother. The funding comes from the Government’s New Homes Bonus, which is a key part of its strategy to increase the supply of available housing.
The New Homes Bonus ensures that local authorities who promote and welcome growth can share in its economic benefits. Through the Bonus for every new home built, the Government will match the funding local authorities receive in additional council tax. This includes councils bringing empty properties back into use and there is an additional amount for affordable homes.
Commenting, Greg said:
‘It is great news that Rother will receive £770,112 amount of funding through the New Homes Bonus, which can be spent by Rother District Council on improving local infrastructure, delivering additional homes or on anything that will benefit the local community.
‘Under the previous Government, house building fell to its lowest peacetime level since the 1920s, with Labour’s top-down targets building nothing but resentment. Conservatives in Government have taken a fundamentally different approach with the New Homes Bonus.
‘We are rewarding, rather than penalising, councils and communities for welcoming development, and providing a powerful incentive for Rother District Council to help make sure our children have good quality, affordable housing in our area.’
