26.01.14 for immediate release: Bexhill and BattleMP, Greg Barker, enjoyed a train ride along the re-laid track between Robertsbridge Station and Northbridge Street when he visited the Rother Valley Railway (RVR) at Robertsbridge Station on Friday 16 January.
Greg was joined by Huw Merriman, the Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Bexhill and Battle for the visit. Huw was keen to find out more about this local project and the implications for the local community and economy.
RVR Chairman, Gardner Crawley, and volunteer members of RVR provided Greg and Huw with an update on their plans to restore the missing rail link between Bodiam and Robertsbridge. This approximately 3.5 mile long section of line, will link with the Kent and East Sussex Railway at Bodiam, enabling through running for a total of 13.5 miles on to Tenterden. The new Robertsbridge Junction Station (which is under construction), will also provide a rail link to main line railway at Robertsbridge.
Speaking at Robertsbridge Greg said “The Rother Valley Railway is making terrific progress and I was delighted to actually ride along the new track in Robertsbridge.
With the prospect of crossing the A21 and connecting to Bodiam and Tenterden, now very real, the whole community needs to rally round this great local project.”
Huw commented “This was a great opportunity for me to meet the members of the Rother Valley Railway and find out more about this exciting local project. I was impressed with the progress they have made which could not have come about without the dedication and hardwork of local volunteers.”
