HUW PUTS HIS HANDS UP FOR CHESTNUT TREE CHILDRENS HOSPICE
08.06.2014 for immediate release: Local MP, Huw Merriman put his hands up for charity when he joined District Councillor Pam Doodes and her Ninfield Fellowship Ladies, assisted by Chris King of Chestnut Tree at their collection day in Bexhill last Friday.
Whilst helping out with the collection wearing the charity’s yellow tabard, Huw found out more about the new “Hands Up for Chestnut Tree” initiative from Community Fundraising Officer Chris.
As Chris explained “We currently care for 300 children with life-shortening conditions and their families, including 55 in East Sussex, but we know there are more children who need our care. We want to double the number of children we are caring for in East Sussex, but we need help to do it so we are asking local people to put their Hands Up if they think they can help us. We would like to say thank you to Mr Merriman for showing his support and helping us spread the word and hope that more people in the county will feel inspired to do the same.”
Huw said “Chestnut Tree hospice provides incredible care to some very brave children in our area. I am looking forward to visiting the hospice this summer and was delighted to join its volunteers to raise funds and awareness for this most worthy of charities.”
The organiser of the event and Wealden District Councillor, Pam Doodes said “Bexhill residents are an absolute joy and so generous, they gave a total of £550.00 on Friday. In addition they gave time to hear about the work of the hospice and to share their own experiences. My Fellowship members really enjoyed meeting so many interesting people. A massive thank you from us and from the children who will benefit"
There are plenty of opportunities to put your Hands Up and get involved with Chestnut Tree. For more information visit www.chestnut-tree-house.org.uk/handsup, email [email protected] or telephone 01323 725095.
