HUW MERRIMAN MP: CONSERVATIVES HELPING PEOPLE TO FIND A GOOD QUALITY, AFFORDABLE HOME IN ROTHER
17.06.2015 for immediate release: Bexhill and Battle MP, Huw Merriman, has welcomed new figures showing that the Conservative’s long-term economic plan is delivering new affordable homes for families in Rother.
Since 2010 a total of 350 new affordable homes have been built in this area. Across the country over 260,000 new homes have been delivered, with nearly 60,000 homes built last year alone – a rise of 63 per cent on the previous 12 months. This exceeds the targets originally set by the Government.
Every new affordable home that is built means one more family that is able to find a good quality home where they can raise their family and enjoy security and peace of mind.
The Government is now going further, with work already begun to build another 275,000 affordable homes over the next five years. This will be the fastest level of house building for 20 years.
Huw commented:
‘Everyone who works hard should be able to own a home of their own. But thanks to Labour’s Great Recession this became nothing more than a pipedream for many families.
‘Our long-term economic plan has turned this around and got Britain building again, with house building now at its highest level since 2007. This has helped to deliver 350 new affordable homes in Rother since 2010.
‘This means 350 more families able to enjoy the security and peace of mind that comes from living in a good quality home, affordable home of their own.”
