HUW CALLS FOR NOMINATIONS FOR THE BEST LOCAL PUB CHEF
05.10.2015 For immediate release: Huw Merriman, MP for the Bexhill and Battle constituency is calling on local residents and pub landlords to nominate their pub chef for the first ever Parliamentary Pub Chef and Young Pub Chef of the Year awards.
The British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) and the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group have launched this new award to recognise the high standard of food now being served in many pubs across the country. Pubs serve almost a billion meals a year, with more and more pubs recognising that great food will attract more customers. Pubs are also vital to the local economy in every part of the country, offering valuable and flexible employment.
With a national shortage of pub chefs, earlier this year the BBPA, in conjunction with the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) launched the Pub Chef Passion initiative, aimed at promoting the pub chef as a career option. This award seeks to build on that work, and encourage young chefs towards a career in the pub trade.
Huw said “We are really fortunate to have so many excellent pubs in the Bexhill and Battle constituency serving excellent food alongside local beers and ales. Though I’ve visited many local pubs, I’m sure there are plenty more that offer great meals. That’s why I’m asking local residents and pub landlords to nominate their pub chef for this prestigious new award. To nominate your pub chef or young pub chef (under 25) please email me at [email protected].”
Nominations close on Friday 2 November. Huw will then put forward the two Pub Chefs and two Young Pub Chefs who have the most local nominations. They will then be judged by an expert panel which will decide whether he/she will go through to the final stages. The award, sponsored by Nestlé Professional, will be presented in the New Year.
