Mr. Tony (Arthur) Bayliss, 71, was announced as Bexhill’s Senior Person of the Year at an afternoon tea event held at Ashridge Court Care Centre, Barnhorn Road. Local MP, Mr. Gregory Barker presented Mr. Bayliss of Rotherfield Avenue with the Award and a £100 dining voucher following a nomination submitted by his wife, Christine.
Tony was recognized for the love, care and nursing attention he provided to his late father–in-law. His wife, Christine Bayliss said: “This allowed my dad to stay at home with this family right up to very last. This wasn't Tony’s Dad - it was his father in law but he loved and cared for him as if he was his own flesh and blood. I am so very lucky to have a husband like Tony Bayliss.”
The runner-up was Mr. Tony Higley, 78, of Kinver Lane who was nominated by his daughter, Sandra Hill, for his outstanding commitment to his family and to the Bexhill community at large including the Little Common Legion, the local branch of Canal Zoners, Air Cadets and Bexhill’s youth.
Greg Barker said: “It is a great pleasure to be here at Ashridge Court today to present these Awards. Tony (Bayliss) has demonstrated that kindness begins at home and this kindness will never be forgotten. The runner up, Mr. Tony Higley is also a remarkable member of the community and his contribution has been recognized far and wide in a host of organisations.”
This is the first year of the campaign run by Ashridge Court Care Centre in association with the Bexhill Observer. It is hoped that it will grow in size and standing every year.
