09.12.11 For immediate release: Greg Barker, MP for Bexhill and Battle, recently visited the Battle Town Council – Mansers Shaw Woodland Protection Project. Here he met Cllr Ms Marie-Louise Neill, Chairman of the Estates Committee and Cllrs Mrs Paula Fisher and John Boryer, members of the Estates Committee and the Mansers Shaw project team and town clerk Mr Peter Mills.
This project was awarded an ‘Awards for All’ Big Lottery grant of £5,247 in March 2011 to help restore wildlife and create paths in the woods for the wider community. This will encourage access to underused areas of the woodland and restore damaged areas of land.
Speaking in Battle, Greg said “This is a wonderful piece of ancient woodland, literally on Battle’s doorstep. These improvements will not only make access easier and open it up to far more local people but will actually protect the woodland itself. It’s a great win for Battle. However, we need more projects like this in our area. So I would encourage other villages to approach the Big Lottery with similar ideas.”
