Bexhill MP, Greg Barker has congratulated the De La Warr Pavilion on the retrospective show of the works of US pop artist Andy Warhol, “Warhol Is Here”, their most successful exhibition to date, when he met Acting Director Stewart Drew last week.
Whilst enjoying a coffee with Stewart in the re-styled café lounge, Greg was delighted to hear that the Warhol exhibition had so far attracted over 100,000 visitors to the Pavilion. He was interested to hear of very exciting plans for new exhibitions and events in 2012. Greg will be returning to the DLWP in mid-February to co-host an event to celebrate the success of the Warhol exhibition before it closes on 26 February.
Speaking at the DLWP, Greg said “The death of Director Alan Haydon last summer was a terrible loss to the Pavilion but I am sure he would be incredibly proud of the way his team has pulled together and made such a brilliant success of the Warhol exhibition for which he was the driving force. Although Alan passed away far too young, he certainly left the DLWP at the top of the game. Acting Director Stewart Drew has stepped into big shoes but has really done well and brought his own new ideas and energy to this important position. The DLWP is now set for a very busy and exciting year in 2012, which bodes well for the whole town.”
Acting Director Stewart Drew says:
“It was good to meet with Greg and bring him up to speed with our current success and future plans. Greg is always supportive of the Pavilion and we look forward to working with him in the coming weeks.”
