GREG VIEWS PROGRESS ON THE BEXHILL LINK ROAD
01.04.14 for immediate release: Bexhill MP, Greg Barker, joined Patrick McLouglin, the Secretary of State for Transport, and Conservative colleague Amber Rudd, MP for Hastings, on a site visit of the Bexhill to Hastings Link Road yesterday.
The Transport Secretary had been invited to see the progress on the Link Road which finally got underway after the Coalition Government approved funding of £56.85 million in April 2012.
Speaking on the site near Crowhurst, Greg said “I was delighted to join the Secretary of State on his visit to the Link Road construction site to show him the wider benefits this project will bring to Bexhill. As well as improving road links between Hastings and Bexhill, the Link Road project is key to providing opportunities for business development, local jobs and housing in north Bexhill.
“After years of prevarication under Labour, this Government recognised the vital importance of the Link Road project in the regeneration of our area and the economic growth that it will bring. I appreciate that the construction of the Link Road brings with it short term difficulties for local residents, especially for the community in Sidley who have faced much disruption in recent weeks so I have been working closely with East Sussex County Council to help minimise this. The good news is that many stages of the project are already nearly finished and the road is on schedule for completion by May 2015.”
